How will Buffy end?
It’s a recurring thought whenever I step back from the current storyline and think about the longer arc. Especially as we are in probably the last season now (?). I’d like for her to not be a Slayer anymore, since I feel she’s been in a constant state of battle fatigue for quite some time now. There’s a reason that role burns through teenage girls and it’s not just the risk of losing a fight to a vampire in a dark lonely place. Being the Slayer is the dark lonely place. Above all else I’d like for her to have an optimistic shot at happiness on her own terms, and more and more I think that means not carrying the burden of defending the world anymore.
If Slaying is a metaphor for feminism and growing up, maybe that’s not in the cards, though.
